This is #15 from Variation 01 of the 100 Themes Challenge
This is also an entry for The Art of Manipulation's contest 'Where I belong'
I see this place a lot in my head. Somewhere wide open, with big beautiful clouds and no other distractions. I imagine crawling under the shade of the tree with a good book and getting lost for the day. I'm sure somewhere like this exists, I just haven't found it yet so I keep going in my head.

I must say this image is incredibly striking. With such saturated colors it just seems impossible not to notice this. For that reason just about maximum points are given for impact.
I personally like the description very much. The concept is not incredibly deep and yet it makes me associate it with more personal feelings and experiences. The artist talks about this place in her head which she has never found in reality yet. I personally see this artwork as a sort of metaphysical world to the imaged happy place inside the artist's head; something deep as the trifold story of The Fountain (if you've seen it). For this reason just about maximum points are given to vision.
I have to admit although I find this piece rather striking, I don't think it's very original. The artist's description certainly gives this piece more depth but stylistically speaking it reminds me a lot of the photo manipulations of trees to represent the seasons (an assignment I also had to do at school and I've seen it on DA as well). I don't think this piece is absolutely unique. 3/5 stars seems fair for originality.
Technically this piece is quite advanced. You might not even have noticed that in the center of the foliage you can see the sky through the tree branches. It's subtle things like this which brings this piece much closer to what a professional photo editor would do.
Having said that, there are also a few of these subtle features which makes me think it's not quite *there* yet. For one, the colors in the tree seem a bit too saturated to the point where it's almost like 8-bit colors. The background is more subtle in that regard. Another small issue is the blur on the horizons. The horizon in the back features a green glow and some of the clouds stop before they "hit" the horizon. My last issue is with the dark spot in the sky above the tree. I like how the center is symmetrical (giving it a more spiritual aspect rather than a more realistic landscape) but I really want that spot to be light, so it can cast the shadow of the tree like it does.
I rarely get the opprotunity to critique a picture that i feel deserves a near perfect score. This is one of those occasions. What instantly grabs me is the shapness of the piece.
The rows of high grass are very crisp and even if they are a yellowish brown showing dryness they are visually appealing.
Next I must note the sky and the way it focuses your eye into the center. I love the clouds and the composition. the way they are spread traslates a plesant day coming to an end. The only thing I would change is the way that the clouds darken in the middle. Perhaps this was to give a sense of macabre to the birds flying above the tree.
Finally the colors used in the tree itself are vibrant and radiate a positive vibe and energy. All while not overpowering it with too much color which I have seen done too many times before.
As a man who grew up in Iowa this makes me remenisce of days spent out in the fields with loved ones and even romantic sunsets spent with past loves.

Excellent work. Keep it up.
